Bubba had a Birthday!

Bubba had a birthday!  Today we celebrated his 4th birthday. If you told me three years ago that when he was four we'd still be having Cars birthday parties, I wouldn't have believed you.  But here we are, with more Cars than I know what to do with. (I just asked Johnny if homeowners insurance covered the amount of money we've spent on these things.)

We had "thparkley donuth" -sparkly (sprinkled) donuts- for breakfast, then played outside all day.  Before pizza and cake there was kite flying and finish flag flying.

The self control Bubba displayed while waiting to grab his new Lightening McQueen off the birthday cake was impressive!  Next time I'll put a candle on a car (even though the cake is really for me anyway. It's my favorite).

Yay, new cars to add to the collection!

If I could sum up the things Bubba has taught me it would be pretty simple:

Sincerely apologize.  When he hurts someone or says something out of anger and gets in trouble, he's told to sit someplace (chair, stairs, room) until he's ready to apologize.  It may be one minute or it may take thirty minutes, but he won't say he's sorry until he means it.  And when he does, he'll give you the best apology ever.  "I'm thorry I thaid I hate you, I'm jutht really mad that you have that car that I really want, but I know it wathn't nithe."

"I love it!" vs "I don't love it."  There's no need to say hate when you can just say, I don't love it.  Bubba LOVES donuts, but he doesn't love cough syrup. And instead of saying something is ugly, stupid, dumb, etc. you can just say "stinky".

Let your real emotion show.  If you're unhappy, why not throw yourself to the ground, arms and legs splayed out, and moan?  Or, if you're happy, why not run around and kiss everyone and shout your love for anything and everything?  I think we could all do better at this.
Bubba likes to kiss my hand when I do or say something that gives him joy.  In public, this probably looks really weird when I let him kiss my hand when I buy him ice cream.

Give warnings. "You're about to make me tho mad", "I'm starting to get CRAZY", "I'm about to toot", etc.

You can never have enough cars.

I love my Bubba-Pierce Hartman Hanna.  He is my laughter and joy and I'm privileged to be his mommy!
