Summer in full swing

In July Johnny went to scout camp in southern Utah.  Part of the service he gives to our church is teaching the 14-16 year old boys on Sundays, does different activities and boy scout trainings on Tuesday nights, and on occasion, goes camping with them.   He had a great time in Escalante with all of the boy scouts and their leaders, and learned a few things (considering he never did scouting when he was growing up).

My Grandma passed away at the end of July, and although it is sad she is gone, I'm grateful that it brought all of my extended family together to celebrate her life.  My Grandpa passed away 7 years ago and it was so comforting knowing that she finally got to be with him again in heaven!

All of my aunts, uncles, and cousins were together for the first time in years!  We had a party at our house and got some photos of the whole group.

In order from oldest to youngest:

All of the second cousins:

Each of the granddaughters got a ring of my Grandma's

The following evening we had a BBQ up the canyon with a lot of the same group! It was my dad's birthday.  I am so grateful for my dad, who is a constant example of all things good.  I love the conversations we have of deep things, and the many lessons he's taught me throughout my life!

In July our laundry room remodel was almost complete!  There are still some things left to finish (I want to paint the tile floor), but the addition of the door, shower, laundry shoot, utility closet, and counter top make doing laundry organized and enjoyable!

...and Romney loved summer, eating and getting chubbier by the second.

Portland and Seattle

A few weeks ago Johnny needed to go to Portland for work and wanted to bring me with him.  I'd never been to the northwest and was so excited to see it!

We brought this chubby guy with us and the flight there was great.  He smiled and giggled, then slept with his dadda.

After getting our bags and renting our car, our first stops were Multnomah Falls and Oneonta Gorge.
I couldn't believe the amazing weather and how green it was!

Oneonta Gorge was beautiful and we walked through the stream, over rocks and slippery logs.

When it got too slippery for me and the baby, we decided to hangout and take selfies while Johnny explored a little more.
While me and baby hung out, Johnny slid down a log and sliced his foot open on a branch.

Our next (unplanned) stop was the urgent care to see to Johnny's cut.
Yuck.  12 stitches later, with a handy pair of crutches (that we forgot to bring home), we were on our way again.

Johnny spent the next day golfing with some potential clients so Tiny Guy and I explored Portland.  We shopped downtown, hung around the hotel, drove around the beautiful hills surrounding the city, then headed to the golf course to pick Johnny up.  I got to experience an hour and a half of Portland's rush hour before getting Johnny and stopping by the LDS Temple.

The following morning Johnny had another meeting and I packed our things up to head out to the Oregon coast and up to Seattle.
We stopped by this cute little farm stand to pick up snacks for the drive, and within 10 minutes Johnny and I both had fruit juice stains on our shirts.

The weather was 85 degrees and sunny in Portland and by the time we made it to the coast it was 65 degrees and crazy foggy!  But I loved it and thought it was so beautiful!

Twinners.  Romney wasn't a huge fan of the fog, he wanted clear skies.

We had lunch at a great little cafe and had lots of crab and clam chowder, and Johnny let me take some serious poses of him because I loved the lighting :).  I thought the cafe was so pretty and it reminded me of Johnny's moms house in Colorado.

Fog, fog, fog.

We settled into our hotel in Seattle, right on the water and down the street from Pike's Market, then called it a night.

The next morning, we did the typical touristy things, like the Space Needle and the Chihuly Garden and Glass Museum. We had great views of the city and I couldn't believe how colorful all the glass was!

From the top of the Space Needle, Johnny saw a church off in the distance so we made that our next stop.  I loved all of the white and wood inside the church.

While driving away from the church, this lovely group happened to pedal by.  A bunch of naked bicyclists in nothing but the buff.  I'm not quite sure what their objective was - maybe anti-underwear, pro-comfortable bike seats, or possibly sunscreen awareness - but I admire their dedication to their cause. Ouch.

We walked around Pikes Market where we ate crab, mini donuts, and drank the greatest apple cider slushy that I didn't know I'd been missing out on these last 29 years.  We then met up with two awesome couples at Wasabi (sushi restaurant) and ate the greatest sushi EVER.  Seriously, I want to go back for the roll that was fried and dipped in teriyaki sauce.  Or the one with pineapple.  Both favorites.

The next day we ate brunch at Salty's across the water and had some terrific views of the city.

We drove out to Snoqualmie Waterfall and Johnny wouldn't stop singing "Sno-qual-mie maybe" (so call me maybe).  Over and over and over.

We saw the Seattle temple.

And last, walked around the Japanese Gardens before heading to the airport.

This guy was great the whole trip (minus the flight home, where he was kind of awful), and his chubbiness was met with happiness everywhere he went.

Goodbye Seattle.  I thought you were amazing, and your people were awesome (and a few were a little odd.)  Can't wait to go back!
